On April 16, Black Mesa, an unofficial remake of the original Half-Life, received a significant update. The Crowbar Collective, the developer of the remake, has enhanced various technical aspects of the shooter.
Key improvements in the update include:
- Transition to DXVK 2.3.1 for enhanced performance;
- Upgraded rendering and post-processing, particularly noticeable in water-themed locations;
- Introduction of additional advanced graphics settings;
- Implementation of volumetric lighting for the sun and local light sources, excluding monitors and reflections in specific areas;
- Full support for Steam Input, offering improved compatibility with PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam Deck controllers;
- Resolution of various graphics-related issues;
- Correction of interface flickering and other visual artifacts;
- The resolution of the game launch crashes and freezes.
Adding to that, the developer acknowledged ongoing issues, such as missing UI element localization and crashes triggered by the Alt-Tab key combination with Vulkan technology enabled. A timeline for addressing these concerns has not been provided.
