Insider Gaming shared some details about the upcoming game.
Bungie announced its extraction shooter Marathon in May, and many players are wondering what exactly the game is going to become. Insider Gaming provided some interesting details and said Bungie aims for Marathon to be the "ultimate live service".
Marathon is a sci-fi PVP extraction shooter that might remind you of Escape From Tarkov, according to the site. To make it the "ultimate live service", Bungie will reportedly introduce minimal load times. The maps will have secrets players can uncover for better replayability. The studio is allegedly working on three maps right now.
While Marathon is a team game, you can also join solo or as part of a duo, apparently. To survive, you will need to deal with a limited oxygen supply, either trying to find O2 canisters or extracting before you run out.
"The oxygen system also ties somewhat into the injury system of Marathon, with certain injuries causing the player to suffer different effects. For example, being shot in the waist area may cause damage to your oxygen supply, which will cause it to deplete more rapidly. Another example given was being concussed, which would cause the player’s screen to blur periodically."
Basically, one "cycle" in the game includes choosing a mission, gearing up, deploying, looting and exploring, extracting, and then spending XP points on upgrades.
