The app should run faster now.

Chaos has released Phoenix 5.2, the latest version of the liquid, fire, and smoke simulation software, for 3ds Max and Maya.
The company promises that simulations are now 10-20% faster than in the previous release. There is a new 'Use GPU to Aid Simulation' option that can run the fire/smoke PCG Fluidity method on the GPU to speed up the workflow. The Simulator also has a new Simulation Speed rollout that shows how much each simulation phase takes and shows you tips on how to improve it.
Chaos Phoenix 5.2 adds support for 3ds Max 2024 and Maya 2024. Both versions have a new option in the Sources allowing you to create velocities in a specified direction or make varying velocities based on a texture map.
There is also a new Axis Lock option that locks the rotation of Active Bodies and improvements to liquid simulations (you can now have the adaptive grid expand vertically in ocean simulations). At the same time, the Standalone Simulator can exclude geometries.
As for software-specific changes, Phoenix for 3ds Max has a floating user interface option, plus you can dock the Simulator's floating rollouts anywhere.
Maya users will see more stable V-Ray interactive rendering of Simulators and Particle Shaders and Isosurface render mode support for TexUVW.
Chaos continues to expand not only its products but also its business: the company has recently announced its acquisition of AXYZ design, the developer of the anima crowd simulation software.
