Check Out This Quirky Interactive VR Penguin Game Developed In Godot

Zi Ye is building the most immersive Club Penguin VR experience.

If you're looking for a fun VR experience where you can really believe you belong in the world and enjoy whimsical physics interactivity, check out this cool penguin game developed by Zi Ye, who joined us to talk about the project and its physically-aware audio system last year.

Since then, a lot has changed: what started as a Unity experiment with a full-body, physics-based penguin VR avatar has evolved into a complete game, developed with Godot Engine. There's so much to enjoy in this penguin world, from its perfectly simple character designs to its incredibly responsive environment, crafted with great attention to detail, including sound design. Slap, grab, and engage in all kinds of playful antics:

Recently, Zi shared two versions of a fishing rod bending differently, one using a 6-bone approach and the other a 1-bone approach. "Don't do with six bones what you can do with one" the developer said, explaining that 6 bones require math to coordinate all 6 rotations at runtime to get the right bend shape, while with 1 bone, it's baked into the weight paint:

Aside from talking about the development of this game, Zi often shares incredibly valuable advice for other Godot developers, so follow him on X/Twitter for more penguins and Godot knowledge:
