Control Lead Designer Founds a New NetEase Studio AnchorPoint

The studio will have locations in Spain and the US and will focus on creating action-adventure games for PC and console platforms.

NetEase has announced the establishment of a new game studio AnchorPoint Studios with offices located in Barcelona, Spain and Seattle, United States.

According to the announcement, the studio's main goal is to create action-adventure games for both console and PC that "push the boundaries of entertainment and bring elements of surprise into the gameplay."

AnchorPoint Studios will be led by Paul Ehreth, a game director and designer who has spent over two decades developing games for PC and console, including his contribution to such titles as Control and Halo. Apart from Ehreth, the studio's team comprises Pere Torrents, who serves as the head of operations, and other developers whose previous work includes games like Halo, Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Division.

AnchorPoint is currently recruiting for nearly 100 positions, including developers, technical artists, and designers. These roles can be fulfilled in the studio's offices, remotely, or through a hybrid arrangement.

"Our studio's motto is 'Per Aspera, Ad Astra' ('Through hardships, to the stars') because what we're attempting to build is an adventure that will stay fresh and provide a unique experience that will surprise people each time they play," Ehreth said in a press release. "We're grateful to NetEase Games for giving us the creative freedom and resources to build an interconnected world that will expand beyond games and reach into other mediums as well."

Since the start of the year, NetEase has been enhancing its production capabilities. In February, the Chinese company established a remote-first studio named Spliced. Prior to that, it acquired Vancouver-based studio SkyBox Labs, a co-developer of Halo Infinite.
