EA Is Rebranding Frostbite

Now the logo represents "the collaborative relationships transforming Frostbite from within".

After 10 years, Electronic Arts has updated its Frostbite engine with a new logo and brand identity. The handprint is now a smoother, more defined shape, if we compare it with previous splinters and shards. According to the studio, the new logo represents "a platform for collaborative innovation".

"The last two versions of the Frostbite handprint showed the hand in a fractured or broken state. This made sense when we were emphasizing our destructible environments in Battlefield, but with today's rebrand, we wanted to tell a different story – one about the collaborative relationships transforming Frostbite from within," stated the company.

The new logo represents the layers of technology development within studios, building upon the experiences and advancements of colleagues to adapt the engine for all. The "smoothed" edges of the print symbolize the intention to refine technology and create a more comfortable experience for both developers and players.

EA has emphasized its commitment to adapting Frostbite to meet the diverse needs of all studios. However, the final decision lies with the developers themselves. They have the option to use other engines like Unreal Engine, if they choose to do so.

While Frostbite is widely used by most EA studios, it is not employed for all games. For instance, it was utilized in the creation of the Dead Space remake and the upcoming Dragon Age Dreadwolf. However, the Star Wars Jedi franchise and the next Mass Effect game utilize the Unreal Engine.

Speaking of Dragon Age Dreadwolf earlier, we reported that BioWare had laid off employees who were part of the game's team. As we know, they always worked with Frostbite, which actually is a problem for them now, since it's an internal engine. The downsized staff might face problems with finding a job because they didn't work with Unity or Unreal Engine.
