Game developer Codemasters, known for F1 and Dirt games, has seen a wave of layoffs set in motion by its parent company, Electronic Arts. EA says the decision was driven by "organizational changes" so it can "meet evolving business needs." For now, it's unclear how many people have been affected, but the company promises to provide "appropriate support" for them.
"Our business is constantly changing as we strive to deliver amazing games and services that keep our players engaged, connected, and inspired," an EA spokesperson told IGN. "At times, this requires the company to make small-scale organizational changes that align our teams and resources to meet evolving business needs and priorities. We continue to work closely with those affected by these changes, providing appropriate support throughout this process."
Codemasters is a British video game developer that is mostly focused on racing games. In 2020, it was supposed to be bought by Take-Two, but later, EA offered a better deal valued at about $1.2 billion.
This year, Codemasters released two games: F1 23 and EA Sports WRC, which both were met pretty well by racer lovers.

Layoffs are a common sight these days, especially among big companies. Spotify plans to let go of about 17% of its workers, Bungie has reportedly laid off 8% of its workforce, and for Embracer Group, layoffs are a whole strategy to restructure the company. This is far from the end, and I'm sure more employees will lose their jobs next year, unfortunately.
