Project Borealis returned with a new teaser trailer depicting the snow-covered streets of Ravenholm.
Project Borealis, a fan project aimed at creating the long-awaited third episode of Half-Life based on a plot synopsis by the game's writer Marc Laidlaw, returned with a new teaser trailer.
It has been almost 20 years since Half-Life 2 was released, and the third episode of the game has not seen the light of day yet and the fans took it upon themselves to create the playable version of the game. However, Project Borealis also hasn't brought updates since 2022, and Half-Life 3 seemed completely forgotten. Recently, after two years of silence, the creators of the project teased fans with a new tweet titled "Incoming Transmission," hinting at the project's return:
And indeed, yesterday, the creators unveiled a new teaser trailer, which is a short clip depicting "the snow-covered streets of Ravenholm in this reimagined continuation of the beloved Half-Life saga," as reads the trailer's description.
The fan-created version of Half-Life 3 hasn't been released yet, and the studio director Postulio said that as "Project Borealis is made in Unreal Engine 5 and not Source, the team had to recreate all the core Half-Life 2 elements: movement, physics, combat, and of course its ambiance," as reported by PC Gamer. "Recreating the familiar ambiance gamers instantly recognize yet also represents unexplored territory is a huge challenge, especially when you're doing it in an entirely new engine," explained the developer.

Recently, there were rumors that Valve was working on the official continuation of the Half-Life series. YouTube blogger Tyler McVicker claimed that Valve's new game, known as HLX, would be the third major game that you play as Gordon Freeman, even if it wouldn't be called Half-Life 3.
