The team will be merged with Square Enix on March 1, 2023.
Forspoken developer Luminous Productions will no longer exist as a separate team as it is going to be integrated into Square Enix. The publisher announced the reorganization within the company in a blog post today.
According to the announcement, the competition of the merger between Luminous Productions and the rest of Square Enix will take place on May 1, 2023.
Square Enix said that the merger is part of its efforts to "further bolster the competitive prowess" of its development studios.
Additionally, the company noted that the Luminous Productions team is not only experienced to develop AAA games but also possesses technical expertise in areas such as game engine development. This is why Square Enix intends to leverage these skills to create massive games within the company.
The merger of Luminous Productions with Square Enix means that the studio will cease to exist as a separate team and brand. The studio was founded in 2018 and was comprised of several Final Fantasy XV developers. The team's debut game was Forspoken, which was released in January 2023. The open-world action RPG received mixed reviews from critics and gamers alike.
