The number of concurrent players in Fortnite has reached a level that surpasses the game's peak during its heyday.
On November 4, 2023, Fortnite achieved a new milestone by setting an all-time concurrent player record. According to tracker fortnite.gg, the game reached a peak of over 6.1 million concurrent players. This surge in players can be attributed to the release of Fortnite Chapter 4, known as Fortnite OG, which brings back the original island, weapons, and early gadgets from the game's successful 2018 era. As of now, Fortnite is still maintaining a strong player count, with slightly over 2.3 million players.
The nostalgia and positive memories associated with Fortnite's OG season are evident. The Battle Royale mode alone reached a peak of 3.1 million players. Additionally, there was a significant number of players engaging in Ranked Battle Royale and Zero Build Battle Royale modes, with almost a million players each. This demonstrates a strong desire for the original, unranked Fortnite experience, along with a curiosity for what could have been, considering ranked mode was not available in the game's early days in 2018.
Previously, we reported that Epic Games laid off around 870 employees, which is equivalent to approximately 16% of the company's entire workforce, because of Fortnite's lower profits.
