The head of Halo Infinite live service Sean Baron said that the feature was 80% before it got canceled.
On November 8, along with a major update, Halo Infinite received online co-op, however, the devs didn't add local co-op to the game. It's worth noting that prior to the update, players were able to access local co-op via an exploit and the feature worked properly.
Speaking during the recent episode of IGN Live, the head of Halo Infinite live service at 343 Industries Sean Baron explained that what players could able to play via the exploit is about 80% of the finished feature.
Baron shared that the studio did work on local co-op for many years, however, the team faced a number of technical challenges, so the studio decided to abandon this feature completely as it was hard to say how long it would take to finish it 100%.
"There's a lot of challenges there from a technical perspective and what people were able to – I guess you called it – 'glitch into' is probably an 80%," Baron said. "But the amount of work for us to get from 80% quality to 100% quality is significant and the amount of effort that would take right now is not something that we can commit to."
Baron acknowledged that this might be frustrating for Halo Infinite players, however, said that the developers will, unfortunately, not be able to add local co-op even in the future.
