Hearthstone Game Director August Dean Ayala Has Left Blizzard

Hearthstone game director August Dean Ayala has left Blizzard after 11 years with the company.

Hearthstone game director August Dean Ayala announced that he has left Blizzard after 11 years with the company. Ayala revealed the news on Twitter thanking the Hearthstone fans and his colleagues. He did not specify where he plans to head next.

"After 11 years, I am leaving Blizzard," Ayala wrote. "Hearthstone is an incredible game. To have played even a small part in its creation is an honor I'll never forget. Thank you to all the players, and a special thank you to my fellow game creators. I am proud of all we built together.

Ayala started his career at Blizzard in 2012 joining the company as a QA analyst. He later served in various positions at the company working on Hearthstone including game designer and lead designer on the project. In June 2022, he was promoted to game director of the card game. Apart from working on Hearthstone, Ayala was also involved in the creation of World of Warcraft and Diablo III.

During his time at Blizzard, Ayala regularly hosted events where he answered questions from Hearthstone fans and asked the players what changes they want to see in the next updates of the trading card game.

Blizzard hasn't yet revealed who is going to take over as Hearthstone game director in Ayala's place.
