As we previously reported, in a recent interview with Edge Magazine, IO Interactive, the developer behind the Hitman series, provided insights into their past 25 years and plans for the future. They discussed their upcoming project, Project 007, which is expected to launch no earlier than April 2025. According to the creators, the game aims to deliver an "ultimate spycraft fantasy", incorporating the darker tones seen in the Daniel Craig era of Bond films, departing from the more gadget-centric approach of Pierce Brosnan's Bond. It is also important to note that the game will not directly mirror any specific film or story but instead offer a fresh interpretation of the Bond universe, drawing inspiration from the original novels and the entire film franchise.

During the same interview, IO Interactive's CEO Hakan Abrak expressed the intention to create "multiple Bond games." Abrak shared his vision, stating: "I would love players to look back on multiple Bond games by IO and go, 'Wow, that was quite a journey!'" When asked whether IO Interactive intends to adopt a long-term approach for the James Bond IP, similar to their handling of Hitman, Abrak confirmed: "Yeah, absolutely. I mean, that's the dream. That's the ambition. And it's also how we always talked about it."

Christian Elverdam, CCO and the co-owner of IO Interactive, also emphasized the shift away from action-oriented shooters and highlighted how Hitman discourages a violent approach, except for a few necessary murders to complete levels. While the success of IO's ambition relies on good sales, the popularity of the Bond license and IO's proven track record suggests the game has potential for success.

As PC Gamer noted, since 2012's 007 Legends, which received mixed reviews and followed a typical FPS format, there has been a lack of Bond games. GoldenEye 007 remains one of the standout titles, incorporating elements beyond mindless shooting. IO appears to be a perfect fit for the Bond game, although its release may still be a while away.
