Josh Scherr Is Leaving Naughty Dog After More Than 21 Years

The writer said he would miss the studio, but admitted that he also sees the advantage of his departure – now he will be able to play the next Naughty Dog games without spoilers.

Josh Scherr, writer and narrative designer at Naughty Dog, has revealed he's leaving the studio after more than 21 years of working there.

The writer announced his departure on Twitter on July 15. He thanked his colleagues for many years of working together as well as for their support, inspiration, and trust. He didn't share where he is going to head next.

"It's been a blast, but now it's time for something new. More on that soon," Scherr wrote.

During his time at Naughty Dog, Josh Scherr contributed to a total of ten games the studio developed, including The Last of Us: Part II, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End on which he served as a writer and narrative designer. He has also worked as a cinematic animator on a number of other titles like Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Since May 2020, Scherr had been working on an unannounced Naughty Dog project.

The writer admitted that he will miss Naughty Dog a lot but shared that he also sees positive things about his departure, for instance, he'll be finally able to play the studio's games without spoilers.

"I'll miss the Dogs a ton, but at some point, I'll get to play a Naughty Dog game knowing very little in advance. And they are cooking up some *incredible* stuff," he wrote.
