Krafton Inc. has recently established ReLU Games, an independent studio dedicated to game development using deep learning technology.
ReLU Games is the 11th independent studio under South Korean video game developer and publisher Krafton and will aim to leverage deep learning technology to create innovative gaming experiences. MJ Kim, formerly the leader of Krafton’s Special Project II, has been appointed as the CEO of a new studio.
The studio will utilize the accumulated knowledge and ideas from running Special Project II for the past three years to develop new titles.
"FOONDA: AI Puzzle" will be the company's debut game and will provide players with a highly customised puzzle experience. In the third quarter of 2023, the studio intends to release the game on mobile devices. Furthermore, ReLU Games is working on a number of other initiatives, such as Project Orchestra, which will employ speech recognition technology to investigate the application of deep learning to gaming.
ReLU Games' CEO MJ Kim said: "Deep learning technology has led disruptive innovation in our daily lives and the integration of deep learning and gaming is the inevitable future," and emphasized that "ReLU Games will continue taking on a challenge based on our experience in leading the integration of deep learning and gaming."
Krafton was established in 2007. It comprises several studios, including PUBG Studios, Bluehole Studio, RisingWings, Striking Distance Studios, Dreamotion, Unknown Worlds, 5minlab, Neon Giant, ReLU Games and Krafton Montréal Studio, which was founded earlier this year.
