Learn How To Create Simple Anime-Style Tree With This Blender Tutorial

3D Artist Trung Duy Nguyen presented a beginner-friendly video tutorial and project files for creating anime-style foliage.

Drawing inspiration from Studio Ghibli movies, in his work, Trung Duy Nguyen aims to recreate anime art in 3D. However, due to their brushstroke origins, the organic shapes and forms of anime-style foliage are particularly challenging to replicate.

In his latest video, Trung Duy Nguyen shares an artist-friendly workflow suitable for Blender beginners that was specially created to imitate brush strokes for anime painting. Despite its simplicity, you can achieve excellent results with this approach:

After watching this video, you'll be able to create similar results by following a series of clear, easy-to-copy steps. Once you understand these techniques, you can apply them to many other art projects, as they are very flexible.

For those who prefer text, Trung Duy Nguyen has also provided a written version of his Anime Foliage tutorial. The accompanying project files can be found on his Gumroad.

Earlier this year, Trung Duy Nguyen joined us to talk about the Königsberg Castle project done with Unreal Engine 5. Check out his other Ghibli-inspired 3D art, and follow on X/Twitter for more:
