Minecraft Bans NFT Integrations

Minecraft's new policy prohibits creating rare digital assets in Minecraft using blockchain technology and integrating blockchain in Minecraft client and server applications.

Minecraft developer Mojang Studios has recently shared its position regarding NFTs and blockchain.

"Integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are generally not something we will support or allow," the studio wrote. It also explained the reasons behind its policy.

According to developers, the concept of NFT is contrary to the basics of Minecraft – the studio believes that all content must be available to all players, while non-fungible tokens are distributed on an exclusive basis. In addition, NFTs are often used for fraud and speculation, from which the creators of the game want to protect its users.

"The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering, which we think is inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players," the studio wrote. "We are also concerned that some third-party NFTs may not be reliable and may end up costing players who buy them."

In order to protect Minecraft players, Mojang introduced a set of rules. First of all, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside Minecraft client and server applications. Besides, users are not allowed to create rare digital assets like worlds, skins, items, and mods in Minecraft using blockchain technology.

Mojang shared that there are no plans to implement blockchain in Minecraft in the near future, but said that the studio will monitor the development of the technology and see whether it will correspond to the principles of the game.
