Another legal battle, but this time the target is not going to go down easily.
You've surely heard about Monster Energy – the energy drink promoted by many streamers and celebrities. What you might not have heard of is how the company tries to eliminate game titles that have the word "monster" in them. This is what happened to Ubisoft's Gods and Monsters, now known as Immortals Fenix Rising, and this is what's happening to an indie studio Glowstick Entertainment.
Its founder and CEO Vincent Livings shared on Twitter that Monster Energy had targeted the company for its game Dark Deception: Monsters & Mortals and asked to change its name as well as comply with some other demands. Apart from "monster" and its variations, the studio can't use words like "beast" and "unleash". You can find the terms below:
"It also forces us to agree to never use a green & white logo on a black background for any game we ever make. So they own the colors green & white too apparently."
But Livings is not going to silently take what's coming and will fight the company in court. Meanwhile, he is going to do a Q&A live stream fundraiser to help the studio with legal expenses where he will play games that contain the word "monster(s)" in them.
