The specific date of THE FINALS' launch is unknown, but it may happen during The Game Awards' week.
Yesterday, Tokio-based publisher Nexon released earnings for the third quarter of 2023 where the company expressed satisfaction with the beta performance of their destruction-based first-person shooter, THE FINALS. The beta not only exceeded the company's expectations but also attracted an impressive 7.5 million players, despite minimal marketing efforts. Additionally, during the beta phase, THE FINALS emerged as the top game on Steam regarding wishlist additions, indicating strong interest from players. The publisher plans to distribute the game using a shareware model upon its release.
Nexon also shared some exciting news that THE FINALS is slated for release in 2023, aligning with the publisher's fiscal year, which corresponds to the calendar year. While the specific release date remains uncertain, it is anticipated that Embark Studios, the development team behind THE FINALS, will present a trailer for the game at The Game Awards in December. Notably, Embark Studios has been a regular participant at The Game Awards. Interestingly, in the case of the open beta, it was launched just one day after its announcement, leaving room for speculation about the potential release strategy for the full game.
"Nexon is tracking to finish the year with seven consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth. And following an incredibly popular and successful open-beta test, THE FINALS is ready to launch this year – the first in an exciting lineup of new titles in development that include ARC Raiders and The First Descendant, as well as Embark's new creative platform. For our investors, this translates to an asymmetric upside opportunity with existing franchises delivering steady revenue and new releases offering potential for step-function growth," stated the President and CEO of Nexon.
The report published by Nexon also states that the current CEO of Nexon, Owen Mahoney, is stepping down from his position after a decade at the helm.
"Today we also announced that after an enormously gratifying decade as Nexon's CEO, I will be stepping down in March – a decision that has been in the works for some time. Following a transition period and a vote at our Annual Shareholders Meeting in March, company veteran Junghun Lee will begin a new generation of leadership as Nexon's CEO," says the report.
