Nintendo Lists Metroid Prime 4 as Switch Game

It might be the last Nintendo game on Switch.

Metroid Prime 4 was announced back in 2017 but has been MIA since then. Reports say Nintendo wants to launch its new next-gen console in 2024, so is there a place for Metroid on the current Switch?

Apparently yes, as the company included the game in its list of Switch exclusives. In its financial report (via IGN), Nintendo presented the upcoming and announced games for Switch, and Metroid Prime 4 is still part of it.

Here is the full list:

  • Detective Pikachu Returns 10/6/2023
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder 10/20/2023
  • WarioWare: Move It! 11/3/2023
  • Super Mario RPG 11/17/2023
  • Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (temp.) 2024
  • Princess Peach will star as the main character in a brand new game (temp.) 2024
  • Metroid Prime 4 (temp.) TBA

Metroid Prime 4 hasn't had it easy. Its development was restarted in 2019 under Retro Studios, the developer of the previous Metroid Prime games. With no news about the title and Nintendo's next console allegedly coming soon, players doubted they'd see the sequel on the beloved Switch. Well, either they're in for some great news soon, or "Switch 2" will not arrive next year.

On the other hand, some look at this as a Breath of the Wild moment – the Zelda game was released as a launch title for Switch but was also the final Nintendo game for Wii U. VGC's Andy Robinson says he's heard Metroid Prime 4 would face the same fate and become the last big Switch game.

Nintendo still has plenty of time to announce Metroid Prime 4, and the presumable release dates suggest we'll hear more about it soon.
