The game's developer shared that the adventure was inspired by Studio Ghibli movies.
Steam Next Fest offers a bunch of demos to play this week, and one of them is Planet of Lana – a cinematic sci-fi puzzle adventure stretching across centuries and galaxies.
It will take you to the beginning of the full game, where Lana meets her companion Mui. The demo should be around 20-30 minutes long. It also allows you to play with a mouse and a keyboard instead of just a controller.
At a recent ID@Xbox showcase, creative director and Wishfully co-founder Adam Stjärnljus shared that the adventure was inspired by Playdead's Limbo and Inside as well as Studio Ghibli movies, "especially the film Spirited Away".
"That's been kind of like a guiding star from the beginning in terms of tonality with this serious, emotional story, but [also] still, like, a fun quirkiness to it, and really this sense of exploring another world, which we really want."
Sidescrollers like OddWorld, Flashback, and Another World also left an impression of the developer. "[Planet Of Lana] will definitely get darker as you get further into the game. What we're going for is really an epic adventure with proper character progression and a story with a proper beginning, middle and an end. We have a lot of twists and turns for you."
But it seems like these dark parts are not part of the demo.
