In case you missed it, during the latest Roblox Developer Conference (RDC) 49, the company revealed its upcoming products and features aimed at assisting creators in earning on the platform. These initiatives grant creators the ability to develop subscription-based offerings and explore various business models, providing them with fresh avenues for monetization.
A few days ago, Roblox shared some other changes related to the ability of developers to begin creating and managing subscriptions within their experience. As stated on their forum, eligible creators will have the opportunity to generate subscriptions within Creator Hub and incorporate them into their experiences using a new set of APIs in Studio. The company also emphasized the fact that creators will need to verify their accounts if they want to access these subscriptions.
The subscriptions will be purchased in local currency, and ahead of many questions from users, the company provided an explanation for the decision:
"Subscriptions renew automatically unless the user actively cancels. To support this automatic renewal feature, subscribers will pay in real-world currency. Automatic renewals help to retain subscribers which leads to more opportunities for creators to earn from an ongoing revenue stream.
Paying creators in Robux also allows creators to understand overall experience monetization across different products (dev products, Passes, subs, ads rev share) more seamlessly without having to do currency conversions."
For now, users cannot purchase subscriptions, at least not until November. If you want to learn more details on the upcoming subscriptions, check the Roblox forum.
