Self-Shadowing Add-On Created With Blender Cycles

Blender Artist Alex "HotdogNugget" Heskett shared a quick way how to achieve hyper-realistic shadows in Blender Cycles.

Blender Artist Alex Heskett a.k.a. HotdogNugget has shared a prototype for a one-click Height Map self-shadowing add-on. Set up in Blender, the shader is powered by a Geometry Nodes setup that can be automatically applied and doesn't involve any 3D geometry casting shadows. According to Alex, the tool can be very practical to create outdoor scenes and is compatible with Cycles only. Shadows aren’t bound to a single light source, allowing you to work with any light source.

It's not the first time the creator showcased a dynamic self-shadowing effect. Earlier, HotdogNugget shared a neat parallax shader created with Cycles, which enables one to create a detailed 3D parallax effect and self-shadowing with any lighting. According to the author, the shader supports various texture sets, including procedural textures, and works with 3D decals.
