Sims 5 Won't Be Released But The Sims Movie is in Production

"It's not Sims 5 as a replacement for 4."

Electronic Arts

There were rumors and speculations concerning the possible release of the fifth installment of the beloved Sims franchise. Recently, EA's vice president and general manager of The Sims franchise Kate Gorman confirmed that the company would not launch The Sims 5, concentrating instead on the updates for The Sims 4 and making a movie based on the franchise.

Kate Gorman (via Variety) said that the previous parts of the game series replaced each other, but now EA is working on a new era of The Sims, focusing on adding to the universe instead of replacing the previous games. She clarified: "It's not Sims 5 as a replacement for 4." According to Gorman, this decision was driven by the concern that more than 80 million players worldwide would have to start all over again in the new game after 10 years of playing in The Sims 4.

In the new blog post, EA has shared that it has big plans to expand and improve The Sims 4 both in appearance and gameplay. A "major release of fixes alongside an exciting base game update" is to be released today, September 18.  Also, the company invited the fans to register for the playtest of the new item within The Sims franchise, project Rene, which was long considered to be a codename for The Sims 5. It will test and give an impression of what a multiplayer mode in The Sims might look like.

And this is not all the exciting news. The video game publisher also confirmed that it was working on a film based on The Sims together with Amazon MGM Studios. The company hinted that the new details would be revealed next year, as it marks its 25th birthday.
