Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 4 was unveiled in early 2013, marking a significant milestone following the challenges faced by its predecessor, PlayStation 3. Back then, Sony learned from past mistakes and delivered a cost-effective console with a robust lineup of first-party games that outclassed its rivals.
The PS4's success propelled Sony to emerge as the clear winner in a generation where Xbox struggled to compete. With over 117 million units shipped and record-breaking revenue, PS4 secured its place as a very successful PlayStation console to date, breathing new life into classic IPs and introducing unforgettable new franchises.
Yesterday, in honor of the PS4's 10th anniversary, Sony commemorated the occasion by releasing a video that highlights the games that shaped the generation.
"The PS4 is 10-years-old today! So here's 1 second from nearly every game that's defined the PS4 generation," shared PlayStation UK on its Twitter.
This captivating video, spanning almost five minutes, offers a brief glimpse of each game, with only a fleeting second dedicated to each title. In the video, you can see all of your favorite games starting with Bloodborne, The Last of Us Part 2, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4, and finishing with Street Fighter 5, EA Sports UFC 2, Batman: The Telltale Series, and many others.
It is a nostalgic tribute to the diverse and influential game library that has contributed to the console's immense success over the past decade. A user named Adrian Tanase made a list of games that were featured in the video, you can take a look at the games that "defined the PS4 generation", according to Sony.
Speaking of Sony, recently the company filed a patent titled "Content Streaming with Gameplay Launch" that proposes a system that would allow players to revisit specific moments or sections in a game without having to replay everything leading up to it.
