Although the PlayStation 5 Pro hasn't been released yet, some news related to the PS6 was revealed. Intel reportedly lost a contract to manufacture a chip for Sony’s PlayStation 6 chip in 2022 to AMD.

Two years ago, a bidding process was held to choose a manufacturer for PlayStation 6's chip. The final competitors were Intel and AMD. Winning the contract would have brought Intel billions of dollars and would have been a victory for the company's design segment. It is reported that discussions between Sony and Intel took months and included meetings between the two companies' CEOs, engineers, and executives.

As a result, Sony chose AMD as a manufacturer for the console's chip. Console chips secure compatibility with their earlier versions and allow players to run older games on the new hardware. AMD made the chip for PS5, and moving to any other manufacturer would have risked the compatibility. It was reportedly a topic of discussion between Intel and Sony engineers and executives.
Earlier, it was reported that PS6 would not arrive until at least 2027.
