Sony Restricts Pre-Orders of Anniversary PS5 Collection in Japan

The customers must have used PS4 or PS5 for at least 30 hours.

Sony introduced the anniversary collection of consoles and controllers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first PlayStation launch and restricted its pre-orders in Japan as a means of addressing resellers.

Recently, Sony announced the release of an anniversary collection of PS5, PS5 Pro, and some other devices in the retro design of the original console. The number of PS5 Pro is limited to 12,300. Last week, in the UK, the consoles were sold out, and some of them had already been placed on eBay at a price several times bigger than the original, up to £10,000.

Sony decided to address the issue of scalpers and implemented restrictions for pre-order applications in Japan. The conditions require that the customer uses PlayStation Network with a Sony account registered in Japan and uses PS5 or PS4, or both for more than 30 hours between Saturday, February 22, 2014, and Thursday, September 19, 2024. Sony also noted that if the number of applications exceeded the number of units planned for sale, a lottery would be held.
