"This makes up about 0.01% or even less."
Recently, Square Enix revealed that the upcoming online shooter Foamstars will contain some art that was generated by AI, Midjourney, to be more accurate.
Talking to VGC, Kosuke Okatani, the Producer of Foamstars, mentioned that all the fundamental aspects of Foamstars, including the core gameplay and elements that contribute to the game "being enjoyable", were crafted manually. However, the team also wanted to play with AI as an experiment.
"In terms of the content in the game, this makes up about 0.01% or even less, but we have dabbled in it by creating these icons in the game," Okatani said.
Square Enix made it clear that the team came to the AI-generated art for the album covers that will feature within the game, but everything else was made by the development team.
"As developers, we're always looking at new technologies to see how they can assist with game development. In this instance, we experimented with Midjourney using simple prompts to produce abstract images," shared Square Enix. "We loved what was created and used them as the final album covers players will see in the game. Everything else was created entirely by our development team.
Foamstars is a new 4v4 foam-party shooter, which is slated for release on February 6, 2024. If you want to learn more about the game, check out the game's official website.
