The Force Engine aims to "reverse engineer and rebuild the Jedi Engine for modern systems."
After three years of development, the fan-made remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces is finally ready to launch.
Developer luciusDXL has released version 1.0 of The Force Engine – a project aiming to "reverse engineer and rebuild the Jedi Engine for modern systems and the games that used that engine – Dark Forces and Outlaws."
Current features include:
- Full Dark Forces support, including mods. Outlaws support is coming in version 2.0.
- Mod loader
- High resolution and widescreen support
- GPU renderer with perspective correct pitch
- Extended limits
- Full input binding, mouse sensitivity adjustment, and controller support.
- Optional quality-of-life improvements, such as full mouselook, aiming reticle, improved Boba Fett AI, autorun, and more.
- A new save system that works seamlessly with the existing checkpoint and lives system.
Additionally, texture filtering, dynamic lighting, and bloom are coming later to make the experience as beautiful as possible. And if you'd like to play in the 1995 mode, you can turn all these improvements off. Of course, the mod requires the original Dark Forces, so if you have it, download The Force Engine from here.
