Several artworks featured in Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion were apparently ripped from the Getty Images website.
Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion, released on December 13, received mostly positive reviews from both players and the press. In general, it can be said that Reunion turned out to be a pretty good remaster, however, there is one thing that seems to have escaped Square Enix's attention.
As noticed by Kotaku, several paintings presented in the game contain Getty Images watermarks. You can find those painting while exploring the Shinra mansion in the eighth chapter of the game players. According to Kotaku, there are at least three such paintings in the game.
Getty Images is one of the largest stock photo and art sites, and the presence of the logo on the image means that the developers used the preview version of the image and didn't pay for the license.
All the paintings you can notice in the game are, in fact, real artworks made by real artists, and Kotaku even managed to find the original painting that Square Enix grabbed – this is a piece by John Crowther depicting Ludgate Circus in London in 1881.
This isn't the only Square Enix game to have the watermark spotted. Previously, Kingdom Hearts III had a similar issue, however, back then, a watermark only appeared in one cutscene and was not as noticeable as in the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII remaster.
