This includes 3D Realms — the developer behind the Duke Nukem series, Ghost Ship Games — Deep Rock Galactic creator, and other studios.
Embracer Group is a game industry giant that includes THQ Nordic GmbH, Koch Media GmbH/Deep Silver, Coffee Stain AB, Amplifier Game Invest, Saber Interactive, DECA Games, Gearbox Entertainment, and Easybrain. It owns more than 240 franchises among which are Goat Simulator, Metro, Borderlands, and others. Over 60 internal game development studios create new titles under Embracer Group's lead. Now Embracer Group has more than 70 development teams.
3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks will become Saber Interactive's studios, Ghost Ship Games and Easy Trigger will join Coffee Stain, Digixart and Force Field will be Koch Media's game development teams, and Crazy Labs will go to DECA Games. Embrace Group has over 7,000 employees working from over 40 different countries, and with the newly acquired studios, the company's workforce will grow significantly.
"We are extremely honored to join the Embracer and Saber family. I know that under their guidance, 3D Realms will continue to grow on the path we have set out," comments Mike Nielsen, co-founder and former CEO of 3D Realms.
The company has recently posted an official press release where it shared the details of the purchase. The cost of the expansion amounts to about SEK 2.7 billion ($313.7M) in total, "on a cash and debt-free basis." The company expects the newly added game development teams to contribute about SEK 2–3 billion ($232–348.6M) to Embracer Group’s net sales within the next financial year that ends on March 31, 2023.
