This awesome Whispy Boom effect is made by Simon Trümpler in Unreal Engine.
Simon Trümpler has shared his fantastic Whispy Boom 3D effect, which was made for the VFX Apprentice course in Unreal Engine. The main textures were hand-painted in Krita, while the environmental textures are from the course project. Trümpler used a grayscale texture with a Normal map to create a mask, which he then colorized in the shader.
Aside from Whispy Boom, Trümpler has made other explosions, tileable liquid, and one circle textures.
You can get the project materials on Gumroad for free, it works for Unreal Engine 4.26.
