Team Ninja Shares More Details on the Upcoming Action RPG Rise of the Ronin

Players will get a chance to execute aerial assassinations.

In a recent interview, Team Ninja, the developer of Rise of the Ronin, which has been in development for more than seven years, shared more details on the upcoming game, which is slated for release on March 22, 2024.

The game is set in Japan in 1863, during a tumultuous period of change as the country's long-standing isolation ends. Players will take on the role of a Ronin mercenary named the Veiled Edge and dive into the adventure throughout the cities of Yokohama, Kyoto, and Edo (present-day Tokyo).

In the interview, the team explained that they focused on realism to fully engage players in the game's narrative and setting. The storyline of Rise of the Ronin includes real historical figures like Sakamoto Ryoma and Yoshida Shoin, but the creators developed their own unique story, which means that players can influence events through their dialogue choices and decide whether to spare or kill certain characters in side missions.

In the game, players will be able to horseback ride, use "a bird-shaped glider", or employ a grappling hook. The hook can be used with the glider to execute aerial assassinations. Similar to Nioh, Rise of the Ronin will offer a diverse range of weapons and parrying. Players will have the option to wield a katana set ablaze or use long-range weapons, including guns. The main character can also employ a grappling hook to attack enemies by throwing explosive objects.
