The Last of Us 2 Remastered Is Coming to PS5 This January

It will come with lots of new features, including a new roguelike game mode.

Sony and developer Naughty Dog have announced The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which will become exclusively available on PlayStation 5 starting January 19, 2024. This enhanced version offers a list of visual and performance upgrades, including 4K resolution and an unlocked frame rate option for TVs with variable refresh rate support. Additionally, players can look forward to a new roguelike mode and other exciting features.

"The engrossing campaign returns alongside technological improvements, new modes, and new behind-the-scenes features that will deepen your understanding of Part II's creation. But before we break down what's in store, take a look at our announcement trailer below," as stated in Naughty Dog's blog.

One of the most exciting additions in this remastered version is a new mode called No Return. Naughty Dog describes this roguelike survival mode as a thrilling opportunity for players to test their skills in unpredictable encounters and explore fresh combat dynamics. What makes this mode even more captivating is the inclusion of diverse playable characters, some of whom are making their debut in The Last of Us franchise. Each character has distinct traits that cater to a variety of playstyles, adding another layer of excitement to the gameplay experience.

"Players will chart their own course on each run, choosing between various stealth and combat encounters that will pit you against a range of enemies, with unique twists that can add new, unexpected factors to any given encounter," shared the team.

Apart from that, the remastered edition will introduce numerous graphical enhancements, including increased texture resolution, improved shadow quality, and enhanced Level-of-Detail distances. Also, players can expect faster loading times and full support for the DualSense wireless controller. On TVs that support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), a mode without frame rate limitation will be available.

The remastered version will also include a new set of Lost Levels, granting players access to cut episodes that did not make it into the original game's final version. These locations will be accompanied by developer commentary, providing players with additional context and insight. The remaster will feature commentary from Director Neil Druckmann, Narrative Lead Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey. Together, they will discuss various aspects of the plot and characters, enriching the player's experience.

The remaster will introduce additional character skins not only for Ellie and Abby but also for their weapons, allowing players to personalize their gameplay further. Furthermore, a Speedrun Mode will be included, enabling players to share and compete with their recorded run times.

Lastly, an improved Photo Mode will be incorporated, allowing players to capture and share their favorite moments from the game with enhanced features and functionality.
