However, he doesn't entirely rule out this possibility saying that he might come up with something "radically new."
Vampire Survivors, an indie shoot-'em-up game developed and published by Luca Galante, also known as poncle, undoubtedly gained immense popularity in 2022, receiving numerous accolades and revitalizing the wave-based rogue-lite genre.
The title is currently one of the most popular games on Steam and its mobile version also became an instant hit gaining an audience of over 1 million players in less than a month of its release.
Judging by Vampire Survivors' score on Metacritic (8.2 for the PC version, 8.5 for the Xbox Series X version, and 8.0 for the mobile version), users highly appreciated the time survival game. Additionally, it was the most-played game of the year of Xbox boss Phil Spencer who spent over 200 hours playing it in 2022.
However, despite this huge popularity, the developer apparently is not planning to create a sequel, at least, not in the near future. In an interview with GameSpot, Galante explained that due to the remarkable success of the current DLC plan, the possibility of a hypothetical sequel to the game is "unlikely", although he doesn't completely dismiss the idea suggesting that it needs to be something completely different.
"With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game, so why make a sequel?" he said. "I think that if we make a sequel or a spiritual successor, then we should offer something radically new."
On February 9, the latest update for the game was released, which introduced a new challenge stage, two relics, and three achievements. In December last year, the game had already received its first paid DLC, Legacy of Moonspell, which offered players a new map, Mt. Moonspell, along with eight fresh characters and 13 new weapons and evolutions. Poncle has said that additional paid DLCs are currently in the works but noted that major game features will be available for free to all owners through updates.
