3D Artist Imagines a Portable Console Using Maya & Plasticity

Would you buy such a handheld?

Aleksei Bachinskii, a 3D Environment Artist whose Ghibli-style digital scene impressed us back in 2023, has seemingly decided to take a break from environment art and try something new, presenting a highly detailed 3D model imagining a portable game console.

Boasting a lively display and tons of eye-catching details, such as scratches, stains, and stickers, Aleksei's superb handheld was brought to life using Maya and Plasticity, a lightweight NURBS modeling software described by its creators as "CAD for artists". According to the author, the prop was created to practice design and learn more about the tools and workflows Plasticity has to offer.

Previously, we spoke to Aleksei about setting up a sci-fi apartment and achieving cinematic lighting in Unreal Engine. You can read the full interview here.
