This week, we would like to highlight this amazing experience by talented 3D environment artist, Franek Leszczyński. Explore and immerse yourself in this dystopian Chinese alley, with its dark and eerie atmosphere.

Chinese Alley drew inspiration from the game "Stray," particularly the Midtown area. Since the creator played it, he knew he had to craft a scene with similar vibes. It also takes inspiration from the streets and alleys of Hong Kong and Kowloon Walled City. 

The goal was to construct a semi-abandoned, dystopian environment rich in environmental storytelling, employing a realistic art style. Upon entering the experience, you can walk around and explore a dystopian Chinese alley, immersing yourself in its dark, eerie atmosphere.

"The greatest challenge I encountered was balancing the materials to ensure they complemented each other, making the scene feel gritty and lived in, while also ensuring they worked well with the lighting. There was also a lot of experimenting with the color palette for the scene.", stated the artist.

Structural pieces like floors and buildings were created with a modular workflow in mind, utilizing an advanced vertex painting shader as well as procedural dirt using grunge masks to make every piece feel unique.

The environment was created using Maya, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter & Designer, Unreal Engine 5.3 along with several Megascans assets for ground textures, decals and foliage.
