Jeff Desom unveiled how the raccoon part was created in Adobe After Effects.
While filming a movie, many creators come up with unusual ideas, and the 2022 comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once is not an exception. Jeff Desom, who worked as a Visual Effects Artist for the picture, shared that the cooking scene where Harry Shum Jr. shows off his slicing skills was actually made in 2D using Adobe After Effects' paintbrush.
"I didn’t have the time to do this in 3D so I crudely painted the ingredients with the paintbrush tool in [A]fter [E]ffects and animated them with keyframes. Add some motion blur and voilà."
The result is amazing – the scene still looks realistic and you can't see anything wrong with it (aside from the raccoon tail under the hat). It proves that some cool elements don't need a lot of expensive techs to work well.
