A New Spin Blur Asset for Unity

Check out this soon-to-be-released asset by the AiKodex team.

The AiKodex team, known for their great-quality Unity assets, have announced the upcoming release of Simple Spin Blur, a simple script that adds spinning blur per object in Unity. The asset is yet to become available on Unity Asset Store, but there is a WebGL demo that you can try out here and leave your feedback.

According to the team, enqueueing the transforms and interpolating the samples with increased transparency in between is how they managed to get this effect. The enqueuing and dequeuing are done on the CPU, but since stacks and queues are primitive data structures, they'd execute at extremely high speeds.

"This technique does require your shader to be in the alpha test/transparent queue. The script drops off the alpha to make it see-through. Works best with the regular Standard Shader with rendering mode set to Transparent or Fade," comments the team. "It's available for URP and HDRP as well and it really works amazingly on these pipelines as the shader on these pipelines receives an extra shadow pass for 2000+ render queue i.e transparent materials."

The full version of SSB is to be released on AiKodex's Unity Asset Store page this week. You can also visit their website to check out more of AiKodex's great Unity assets.
