Technical Artist and Unreal Engine R&D Asher Zhu has unveiled a stunning water simulation made in Unreal Engine 5, showing the simulation capabilities of the recently-released engine. The project looks extremely realistic and natural-looking, with simulated water having the physics of its real-life counterpart. According to the artist, some of the things shown in the video above aren't available yet and will come with UE5.1.
The simulation itself was made using Niagara Fluids, a new plug-in that adds grid simulation to the engine, allowing you to add smoke, fire, explosions, water, splashes, and many other physically plausible effects to your projects. Asher also used fluid-sim tools built by Senior Physics Engineer at Unreal Engine Devon Penney to make this amazing project. The foam, according to the artist, is a triplanar projected 2D texture, advected using Dual Rest Fields, a technique similar to the one used in this project.
