A WIP Look at Heightmap Brushes for Unreal Engine

The brushes are being made by Victor Careil.

Victor Careil has presented his work on heightmap brushes for Unreal Engine. The brushes are a 2D projection for now, so you can't rotate them vertically. The project is still in early development.

Careil also said that most of the details are stored in textures instead of the actual geometry, so it's "pretty cheap to render." Each voxel "cell" is projected on an axis, which allows for almost seamless 3D UVs. In addition to normal data, you can pass any number of channels through the detail textures.

Victor Careil is also the creator of the voxel plug-in for Unreal Engine, which can be downloaded for free.
