First introduced in 2021, Adobe's Substance 3D Stager is a professional staging tool for scene design and rendering. It's an intuitive and powerful software for building 3D scenes, product mockups, and brand visualizations, aimed at both designers and professional 3D artists.

Recently, Adobe has teased the first integration of its AI image creation tool Firefly in the Substance 3D ecosystem starting with Substance 3D Sampler and Substance 3D Stager, aiming to bring creative freedom and faster workflows for industrial designers, 3D artists, and other professionals. You can learn more about 3D Stager and whether it suits your needs in the introductory video below:

With Substance 3D Stager 3.0 you can easily create unique background images from text prompts with the Generative Background tool powered by Adobe Firefly.

Generative Background uses Match Image technology to align the camera perspective and lighting, making it effortless to showcase your designs in an appropriate context. All content created with Generative Background will also have content credentials applied, indicating that it's AI-generated.

The update includes an improved Select Tool with a "screen-oriented bounding box design for easier compositing at lower angles", made to work in 3D space while staying oriented to your screen. You can easily alternate between the traditional and new Select Tools.

3D Stager 3.0 also adds an interactive high-speed denoiser when editing a scene in design mode, allowing you to get clear previews after every interaction to help make design decisions more efficiently.

Another prominent update is the improved real-time translucency allowing for glass, plastics, and liquids to have refraction in the real-time view. This will affect all alpha, opacity, transparency, translucency, and subsurface objects.

Lastly, Substance 3D Stager 3.0 comes with an expanded collection of materials included in the starter assets. You can either use the default presets or customize numerous parameters to achieve the fitting look for your project.

Other features include new tools for physical light and 3D text creation, several updated UI colors, the ability to save custom scenes as templates, and various bug fixes. While Substance 3D Stager 3.0 is a beta release and there's no final release date yet, you can still download the current Substance 3D Stager 2.1 version.
