The approach allows rendering thousands of detailed 3D objects in real-time.
CG Generalist and Digital Artist Alex Heskett, a.k.a. HotdogNugget, has released a preview demo of an upcoming add-on for Blender Eevee that promises to greatly simplify the process of creating large-scale scenes. According to the demo, the add-on, currently being developed by Alex, will be capable of generating low poly impostors of any 3D model, allowing its users to render thousands of detailed 3D objects in real-time.
"The cool thing about shader-based impostors is that the resolution of the texture doesn't seem to have much of an effect on the performance of the scene," commented the developer. "The number of transparent meshes overlapping seems to be the main factor."
