Recently, Autodesk shared on Twitter its latest updates for USD in 3ds Max.
USD for 3ds Max, which was initially launched in 2021 and is currently in beta version, allows users to smoothly import and export 3ds Max data in the universally accepted Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) format.
This new 3ds Max USD 0.5 release includes an updated USD Exporter that offers enhanced capabilities. Users can now export Skin/Morpher data to USDSkel and USD BlendShapes, providing greater flexibility in character animation. Additionally, MaterialX Material support has been integrated into the USD Exporter, allowing for seamless integration with MaterialX Material in Slate.
For developers, the Max USD SDK has received updates, enabling third-party developers to extend the functionalities of the USD Exporter. The SDK is available as a separate download from the Autodesk developer network, empowering developers to customize and optimize their workflows. These features collectively enhance the versatility and efficiency of USD for 3ds Max, providing users with powerful tools for creating and exporting USD assets.
