CDPR Aims For the Cyberpunk Series Evolution Like The Witcher Games

What can we expect from Cyberpunk 2?

Recently Igor Sarzyński, the Narrative Director at CDPR, has shared with PC Gamer some plans for the Cyberpunk series. As they work on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, they aspire to evolve like The Witcher games: "Consider The Witcher games and how much they changed with each installment. We want a similar evolution here", said Sarzyński. This raises a question of what lies ahead for this titan in the game industry.

"Cyberpunk 2077 was our first venture into a futuristic sci-fi world with a ton of new gameplay mechanics, narrative tone, themes, and art direction. Some of the stuff worked almost right out of the box, such as the art, city design, music, interactive scene system, playstyles. Other aspects took more time to get right, like character progression, NPC interactivity, and optimization. That's natural; it's impossible to nail everything on your first try. Now with all the game elements iterated and working well, we'll focus on connecting them even tighter and creating a coherent, total immersion experience," shared Sarzyński.

As PC Gamer's Wes Fenlon stated, CD Projekt has taken significant steps towards game evolution with the introduction of the Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 patch. These updates bring major enhancements to skill trees, loot systems, police AI, and vehicular combat. Additionally, players can now enjoy new perks that boost their abilities, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay.

While the combat in the Witcher games was serviceable, the potential for a truly satisfying combat experience lies within Cyberpunk 2.0. With its refined shooting mechanics and sci-fi abilities that fundamentally change how players engage in battles, CD Projekt aims to deliver an exceptional combat system that surpasses its previous offerings.

However, CD Projekt acknowledges the need for improvement in world-building. Despite the visually impressive Night City, the illusion of a living world fell short upon the game's release. Updates and bug fixes have addressed some of the issues, making the city feel more alive, but there is still work to be done.

Drawing inspiration from the successful evolution of The Witcher series, the anticipation for CD Projekt's second attempt at the Cyberpunk world is high. Fans eagerly await an ambitious and immersive experience that surpasses the original game's vision.

Some more news on CDPR, the company recently unveiled that it had spent more than $120 million on Cyberpunk 2077 since its release back in 2020. The money was invested into bug fixes, the 2.0 update, and the Phantom Liberty expansion.
