The result was achieved via a combination of Geometry Nodes and a shader.
Rahul Parihar, a Shader Artist and Blender enthusiast known to many for his incredible downloadable shaders, has recently unveiled an unusual version of something familiar to every Blender user – a pink donut.
Unlike your typical donut, one would make following the tutorial, Rahul's take on the pastry looks like it is made out of wool, resembling not a delicious snack but rather a real-life needle-felt trinket. According to the artist, this peculiar donut was made using a combination of Geometry Nodes, used for hair curves, and a shader, utilized for the base mesh. Moreover, the developer plans to introduce the setup to Woolly with the upcoming update.
For those unfamiliar, Woolly is Rahul's fully procedural knitting shader for Blender to be used with image textures and/or UV-unwrapped objects, allowing you to make your models look like they are made out of yarn. The needle-felt modifier used for the donut will become available with Woolly 2.0, an upcoming free update that the creator plans to ship in the near future. Earlier, Rahul also shipped Komikaze 2, a massive update to the toolset that added over 150 new shaders and modifiers. You can learn more and try out the toolset by clicking this link.
