Counter-Strike 2's Smoke Effect Recreated in Unreal Engine 5

Christian Sparks shared a series of demos showcasing a UE5-powered spatially-aware smoke grenade setup.

Technical Artist, Game Developer, and the creator behind the upcoming stealth/exploration-based raccoon simulator Christian Sparks, a.k.a. hippowombat, has recently released a collection of demos showcasing a neat recreation of Counter-Strike 2's smoke grenade effect set up in Unreal Engine 5.

In case you missed it, last week, Valve officially unveiled Counter-Strike 2, an updated version of the company's legendary first-person shooter powered by the Source 2 engine, revealing the upcoming game's features and improvements. One of the features showcased by the developer was CS2's smoke grenade effect, which has been completely overhauled and is set to be a dynamic volumetric object capable of interacting with the environment and reacting to lighting, gunfire, explosions, and other gameplay events.

Inspired by the game's new smokes, Christian presented his own UE5-powered spatially-aware smoke grenade setup and shared some technical details regarding it. You can check out the developer's awesome demos attached below or by visiting his Twitter page.
