Discover the Secret Hidden Under a Drill in This Short Horror

“Our future is below us.”

If we talk about how horror games make us afraid, the answer could vary. Personally, I don’t prefer the uncertainty brought by an unsettling, eerie atmosphere accompanied by weird sounds. And that is exactly what today’s game features.

In Descending, a short “experimental” horror game featuring Soviet-era industrial style created by Indie Developer Eugene Radaev, 3D Artist Morgan Taylor, and Audio Designer Maxim Panchenkoyou take a new job as a drill operator, who takes a lift to enter a basement that is way deep underground. No others are around, and the entire environment is so quiet that you can only hear occasional beeps from machines, your steps, and probably your heartbeat. You’ve got a boring task to do: to drill down a certain quota per day as requested until you survive all ten shifts.

Descending

It's all about being stuck in a dark house alone, and you’ll have to follow some orders, not sure from whom, but that seems to be the only choice. It’s unclear how and why you came here, and each following step is unknown, like a mystery. The soundtracks of wind and noises that move from left to right make you feel immersive. As you get deeper each day, your tasks will become harder, which means more puzzles to figure out. Each day ends with a performance report, judging how you’ve done in the day.

Descending

Descending takes up only 62 MB of storage on your computer and would take less than one hour to complete. Yet, it might take you longer to recover from its ending. You can check it out on itch
