Epic Games' New Release Brings a Mesh to MetaHuman Feature to UE

The release also comes with support for the new character rigging, animation, and physics features in UE5.

Epic Games announced a new release for MetaHuman, the company's plug-in for UE that gives any creator the power to create highly realistic human characters. The release brings a new Mesh to MetaHuman feature in Unreal Engine, new options for hair and clothing for MetaHuman Creator, and support for the new character rigging, animation, and physics features in UE5. 

The highlight of the release is, without a doubt, a new Mesh to MetaHuman feature that enables you to take your own custom facial mesh and convert it into a MetaHuman, fully rigged and ready to animate. You can even further refine your character in MetaHuman Creator.

The team also released an in-depth tutorial by Senior Technical Product Manager Raffaele Fragapane. In this tutorial, the artist demonstrates the process of turning your own custom scan, sculpt, or model into a MetaHuman using the Mesh to MetaHuman feature in the new MetaHuman Plugin for Unreal Engine and covers further refining your character in MetaHuman Creator.

On top of that, with this release, you can also use UE5's character rigging and animation features for your MetaHuman projects. Such tools as IK Retargeter, IK Rig, Control Rig, and Pose Tool can now be used with your MetaHumans. 

And finally, the update brings ten new facial animation loops that you can use to instantly bring your creation to life, six new body poses and five facial poses, more clothing options, including the ability to customize colors of areas within fabric patterns, and 23 highly customizable hair grooms to give you more control and offer more variety over your character’s hair.
