Epic Games To Launch Tool For Free Megascans Downloads In Fab

"We're releasing a solution for you to easily claim Megascans that are available for free during this period."

As announced last month, by mid-October, Epic Games will move all its content to Fab, a new marketplace that replaces the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, ArtStation Marketplace, and Quixel.com. Many Unreal Engine users expressed concern as Quixel revealed that Megascans will be exclusively available on Fab and Epic Games will no longer provide free access to the Quixel Megascans library starting next year.

Naturally, the community quickly responded to this news with Software Engineer Jamie Phan releasing a script that automatically saves all Quixel assets to your account while they're still free until the end of 2024. However, certain nuances remained unclear, and Epic Games is now seemingly attempting to address the community's concerns.

On the Unreal Engine subreddit, user JalexM shared an email they presumably received from the Quixel team, indicating that there will be an official tool to download all currently free Quixel assets in Fab:

"From Fab launch until the end of 2024, Megascans will be free for everyone under Fab's Standard License, for all engines and tools. We're releasing a solution for you to easily claim Megascans that are available for free during this period – it's coming soon, so stay tuned!

In 2025, we will begin charging for Quixel Megascans to support the ongoing improvement, curation and development of new Megascans content. While we will continue to offer some content for free, the majority of Megascans will no longer be available for free unlimited use in Unreal Engine projects.

We'll eventually discontinue hosting Quixel content on Quixel.com and the Bridge app, and we'll provide advance notice when that time approaches."
